However, because it contains live organisms, there's some theoretical concern about infection in certain patients—cases of bacteremia, sepsis, and other serious infections have been isolated, though most are thought to occur in people with underlying conditions that allow bacteria to travel from the gut.

Oral side effects are uncommon but may include stomach discomfort, abdominal pain, indigestion, gas, bloating, diarrhea, vomiting, or burping. One trial reported rash and itching in a small number of participants taking a different probiotic blend, though it's unclear whether those effects came from the probiotics themselves or other factors.
