Ultra Micro-Plex Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?

Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Ultra Micro-Plex by AB American Biologics
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Ultra Micro-Plex contains 4 active ingredients, all probiotics (beneficial live bacteria). The labeled strains are L. acidophilus DDS-1, B. bifidum, B. infantis, and L. rhamnosus — these are meant to support your gut health.
The powder also contains herbal stabilizers and maltodextrin as inactive ingredients to keep the bacteria viable and make the product easier to mix and take.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for the probiotics in this product varies by condition. L. acidophilus and B. bifidum are both rated Possibly Effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and for antibiotic-associated diarrhea — that's the firmest evidence we have.
L. acidophilus is also Possibly Effective for Helicobacter pylori infection and bacterial vaginosis, while B. bifidum is Possibly Effective for respiratory tract infections. For many other conditions — allergic rhinitis, anxiety, Alzheimer disease — the evidence is Insufficient.
We hold no effectiveness ratings for B. infantis or L. rhamnosus.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
The probiotics in this product are generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. That said, live organisms do carry some theoretical risk; in rare cases, probiotics have been associated with serious infections like bacteremia or sepsis, though these are uncommon and usually occur in people with weakened immune systems or other serious conditions.
Mild side effects — bloating, flatulence, abdominal discomfort, or diarrhea — are possible but uncommon. If you have a weakened immune system, check with your doctor before taking this product.
There's no pregnancy or breastfeeding safety data on file for these strains.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Separate this product from antibiotic drugs by several hours. Because both L. acidophilus and B. bifidum are live organisms, taking them together with antibiotics may reduce how well the probiotics work.
Ask your pharmacist for the best timing for your specific antibiotic.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This probiotic blend may help with IBS, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, or a few other digestive issues, depending on which strain does the work. If you're taking an antibiotic, don't take this product at the same time — space them out by several hours.
Check with your pharmacist about the right timing, especially if you have a weakened immune system.

Probiotics
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking antibiotic drugs with certain probiotics might decrease the effectiveness of probiotics.
Many probiotics are bacteria. Since these preparations usually contain live and active organisms, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of sensitive organisms. Human research shows that taking probiotic concurrently with antibiotic treatment does not affect the diversity of the gut microbiome compared with antibiotic treatment in the absence of probiotics. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and these preparations by at least two hours.
Antifungals
Theoretically, taking antifungals with certain probiotics might decrease the effectiveness of probiotics.
Some probiotics such as Saccharomyces boulardii are fungi. Therefore, simultaneously taking antifungals might kill a significant number of these organisms.
