Ultra Probiotic Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by Foster Regal
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Ultra Probiotic against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Ultra Probiotic by Foster Regal
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Ultra Probiotic contains 11 active ingredients: four Lactobacillus strains (acidophilus, helveticus, plantarum, and paracasei), three additional Lactobacillus species (salivarius, rhamnosus, and casei), two Bifidobacterium strains (bifidum and animalis lactis), inulin, and a proprietary pre- and probiotic blend. Probiotics are beneficial live bacteria meant to support your gut health, while inulin is a prebiotic fiber that feeds those beneficial organisms.
The capsule also contains inactive ingredients — cellulose, magnesium stearate, and silica — used as binders and fillers.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium strains in this product are possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and possibly effective for antibiotic-associated diarrhea (L. acidophilus and L. helveticus). Bifidobacterium bifidum is also possibly effective for respiratory tract infections.
L. acidophilus is possibly effective for Helicobacter pylori infection and bacterial vaginosis. Inulin is possibly effective for constipation, diabetes, and obesity.
For many other uses listed — hay fever, anxiety, cognitive function, and others — the evidence we hold is insufficient to rate these ingredients' effectiveness.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
These probiotics are generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children, though live-organism formulas carry a theoretical risk of infection in severely ill or immunocompromised people — check with your doctor if that applies to you. The most common side effects are gastrointestinal: bloating, gas, abdominal pain, and diarrhea are uncommon but have been reported, especially when first starting.
Inulin in particular often causes gas and bloating, especially at higher doses. Rare serious cases of bacterial infection (bacteremia, sepsis, endocarditis) have been reported with some Lactobacillus species, though these are thought to stem from bacteria already present in the body rather than the supplement itself.
For pregnancy, Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum are rated possibly safe; inulin is rated likely safe in pregnancy and lactation. Data on safety during lactation for the Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium strains are not on file — talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you take Ultra Probiotic, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you're on antibiotic drugs — taking them at the same time may reduce how well the probiotics work, so you'll want to space them apart. If you take antidiabetes drugs, mention this product as well, since inulin theoretically raises low blood sugar risk, though this is a minor concern.
If you're seriously ill or have a weakened immune system, get clearance first.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This multi-strain probiotic may help with IBS, antibiotic-related diarrhea, respiratory infections, and certain infections when taken separately from antibiotics. If you take antibiotics, antidiabetes medications, or have a weakened immune system, confirm with your doctor or pharmacist before starting.
Mild digestive upset is common when you first begin. Talk it over with your own healthcare provider to see if it fits your situation.

Ultra Probiotic by Foster Regal Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Ultra Probiotic by Foster Regal contains several probiotic strains that interact with medications.
Through its Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium bifidum, and Lactobacillus helveticus content, this product may reduce the effectiveness of antibiotic drugs — a Moderate concern. Because these probiotics are live organisms, antibiotics taken at the same time can kill them off before they work.
The most serious interaction documented is with antibiotics.

Inulin, another active ingredient here, theoretically raises the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) when combined with antidiabetes drugs, though this is rated Minor and remains theoretical.
We could not check several other probiotic strains in this product — Lactobacillus plantarum, L. paracasei, L. salivarius, L. rhamnosus, L. casei, Bifidobacterium animalis lactis, and L. brevis — because we hold no interaction data for them. Altogether, these interactions span 268 individual medications.

For each ingredient in Ultra Probiotic with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Lactobacillus acidophilus
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.
Bifidobacterium bifidum
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Bifidobacterium. bifidum with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of B. bifidum.
Since B. bifidum preparations usually contain live and active organisms, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and B. bifidum preparations by at least 2 hours.
Lactobacillus helveticus
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus helveticus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. helveticus.
Lactobacillus helveticus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. helveticus preparations by at least two hours.
Inulin
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, inulin might increase the risk of hypoglycemia with antidiabetes drugs.
Some clinical research shows that inulin improves glycemic control in patients with diabetes; however, it is unclear if it has hypoglycemic effects.
