Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: vanadyl sulfate, a form of vanadium—a trace mineral. The tablet also includes inactive ingredients (dicalcium phosphate, vegetable cellulose, stearic acid, silica, and vegetable magnesium stearate) that help bind and deliver the dose.

Does it work?

Strong evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Strong

Clinical evidence supports at least one of this product's ingredients for its stated purpose.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: Trace mineral supplementation and athletic performance.
  • We looked for evidence on: Athletic performance, Diabetes, Impaired glucose tolerance (prediabetes), Vanadium deficiency, Muscle building, Cholesterol management.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Vanadium is rated "Likely Effective" for Vanadium deficiency (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Vanadium is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Athletic performance, Diabetes, Impaired glucose tolerance (prediabetes).

Vanadium is likely effective for vanadium deficiency. For athletic performance, diabetes, high cholesterol, and cancer, the evidence we hold is insufficient to rate whether it works.

Most of the data on vanadium and blood sugar comes from very small studies, so we can't say yet whether it's truly effective for diabetes in real-world use.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Vanadium from food is fine, but this supplement dose raises safety concerns. Below the tolerable upper limit of 1.8 mg daily, it's generally well tolerated.

Above that, you may experience stomach upset—abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, gas, and nausea. Long-term use at high doses has rarely caused kidney damage.

Allergic reactions to vanadium have been reported, including itchy rashes and contact dermatitis. This product should not be used during pregnancy or while breastfeeding—there isn't enough safety data to know it's okay.

Moderate identified

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Vanadium.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: anticoagulant / antiplatelet drugs; diabetes medications.
  • For scale: 208 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Check with your pharmacist before adding this supplement if you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (warfarin, aspirin, clopidogrel, and similar medications)—vanadium may increase bleeding risk. Also check if you're on any diabetes medication, since vanadium may lower your blood sugar further and raise your hypoglycemia risk.

Vanadyl Sulfate 10 mg by Vitamin World: Common Questions

Does Vanadyl Sulfate 10 mg by Vitamin World interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Vanadyl Sulfate 10 mg has a known interaction with 208 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Vanadyl Sulfate 10 mg contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Is this supplement safe if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
No. There isn't enough safety information during pregnancy, so it should be avoided. Safety while breastfeeding is also unknown, so it's best to skip it then too. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist if you have questions about your individual situation.
What are the side effects of vanadyl sulfate?
Below the safe upper limit of 1.8 mg daily, it's usually well tolerated. Higher doses commonly cause stomach problems—nausea, diarrhea, gas, and belly discomfort. Long-term high doses have rarely led to kidney damage. Allergic reactions (itchy rashes, contact dermatitis) have also been reported.
Will this help my blood sugar if I have diabetes?
Very small studies suggest vanadyl sulfate might improve how your body uses insulin and lower blood glucose, but the evidence isn't strong enough yet to say it's proven effective. If you have diabetes and are interested, talk with your doctor or pharmacist first—especially if you're on diabetes medication, since this could lower your blood sugar too much.
Can I take this if I'm on a blood thinner like warfarin?
Not without checking with your pharmacist first. Lab studies show vanadium may prolong clotting time, which could increase your bleeding risk on top of what your blood thinner already does. Your pharmacist can help you decide if it's safe for you.
Is 10 mg a safe dose?
This dose is above the tolerable upper limit of 1.8 mg daily established for safety. At higher doses like this one, gastrointestinal side effects are more likely, and long-term use raises concerns about kidney health. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor about whether this dose is appropriate for you.
