XymoZyme Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by XYMOGEN
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking XymoZyme against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of XymoZyme by XYMOGEN
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
XymoZyme contains 17 active digestive enzymes designed to break down different components of food. The main ones include amylase (starch), bromelain and papain (protein), lipase (fat), lactase (milk sugar), protease (protein), cellulase (fiber), and several others including phytase and invertase.
These work together as your food moves through your digestive tract. The capsule also contains inactive ingredients — microcrystalline cellulose, hydroxypropyl cellulose, stearic acid, magnesium stearate, silica, and water — that serve as fillers, binders, and the capsule material itself.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
The evidence we hold is limited. Bromelain and papain each have effectiveness ratings listed as insufficient evidence for their uses in hay fever, burns, cancer, nerve damage from chemotherapy, and other conditions.
Lactase is rated as effective for lactose intolerance. Lipase and phytase have insufficient evidence for digestive conditions and other uses.
Most of the other enzymes in this blend don't have effectiveness ratings in our data, so we can't tell you whether the evidence supports their use.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Bromelain is generally well tolerated short-term, but long-term safety data are limited. It may cause diarrhea, gas, stomach upset, or headache when taken by mouth.
Allergic reactions are possible, especially in people sensitive to pineapple or papaya. You should avoid bromelain during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Papain is also generally tolerated as a food but may irritate your digestive tract or cause allergic reactions in sensitive people; it's best avoided in pregnancy. Protease and the acid-stable protease in this product may cause digestive upset or allergic reactions in some people.
Lactase is generally well tolerated and likely safe in pregnancy. Lipase and phytase have limited safety data in pregnancy and breastfeeding — check with your doctor before regular use.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with your pharmacist if you take warfarin (Coumadin) or other blood thinners (anticoagulants) — papain may increase their effects. If you take antiplatelet drugs like aspirin or clopidogrel, or anti-inflammatory painkillers like naproxen, discuss this product with your pharmacist as bromelain may raise bleeding risk.
If you take tetracycline antibiotics, bromelain may theoretically increase their levels, though studies are mixed.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
XymoZyme is for people looking to support digestion with enzyme supplementation. If you take warfarin or other blood thinners, or antiplatelet drugs, talk to your pharmacist before starting — papain and bromelain may increase bleeding risk.
If you have a known allergy to pineapple or papaya, you should also check with your pharmacist first. Pregnant or breastfeeding?

XymoZyme by XYMOGEN Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
XymoZyme by XYMOGEN is a 17-ingredient digestive enzyme blend, and it does interact with certain medications.
The most serious interaction involves papain, one of the active enzymes. Papain may increase the effects and side effects of warfarin (Coumadin), a blood thinner (anticoagulant).
There is one case report of a patient stable on warfarin whose blood-thinning level spiked after taking a papain-containing supplement.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Bromelain, another active enzyme in this product, may increase bleeding risk if you take blood thinners (anticoagulants) or antiplatelet drugs like aspirin or clopidogrel (Plavix). There is a case report of minor bruising in someone taking bromelain with naproxen, an anti-inflammatory painkiller.
Bromelain also may theoretically increase tetracycline antibiotic levels, though a study in healthy adults found no difference in blood levels when the two were taken together.
Additionally, we could not check amylase, cellulase, peptidase, invertase, xylanase, pectinase, beta-glucanase, hemicellulase, amyloglucosidase, and alpha-galactosidase — we hold no data for these ingredients. Altogether, these interactions span 141 individual medications.

For each ingredient in XymoZyme with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Bromelain
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Bromelain may have antiplatelet effects and may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
There is one case report of a patient experiencing minor bruising while taking bromelain with naproxen. Bromelain is thought to have antiplatelet activity. Whether this interaction is of concern with topical bromelain is unclear. Interference with coagulation of burn wounds has been reported in a patient receiving bromelain-based enzymatic debridement. However, observational research has found that topical bromelain debridement is not associated with increases or decreases in laboratory markers of coagulation when compared with surgical debridement.
Tetracycline Antibiotics
Theoretically, bromelain might increase levels of tetracycline antibiotics.
Laboratory research suggests that bromelain might increase the absorption of tetracycline antibiotics. However, a study in healthy adults reported no difference in tetracycline plasma levels when a 500 mg dose was taken with or without bromelain 80 mg.
Papain
Warfarin (Coumadin)
Theoretically, papain might increase the effects and side effects of warfarin.
In one case report, a patient previously stable on warfarin was found to have an international normalization ratio (INR) of 7.4, which was attributed to ingestion of a supplement containing papain from papaya extract.
