Clinical
Acetaminophen is used to relieve mild to moderate pain and to reduce fever. Acetaminophen is in a class of medications called analgesics (pain relievers) and antipyretics (fever reducers). It works by changing the way the body senses pain and by cooling the body.
Read the full MedlinePlus article ↗This is an over-the-counter combination cold and flu tablet taken by mouth. It contains acetaminophen, which is typically used to reduce fever and relieve pain; dextromethorphan, a cough suppressant; guaifenesin, an expectorant meant to help thin mucus; and phenylephrine, a decongestant. The product is sold under an FDA monograph, meaning it follows established guidelines for over-the-counter cold and cough remedies rather than being reviewed as a new drug application.
