These rows are manufacturer reports to the FDA for Carboplatin Injection — they do not necessarily cover every manufacturer that makes this drug. A company appears here only if it told the FDA it has a supply problem, so other makers may still have stock. That’s the basis for the Where else can I get Carboplatin Injection? options further down this page.

Why is Carboplatin Injection in shortage?

The carboplatin injection shortage is being driven by several different problems happening at the same time across multiple manufacturers. Accord Healthcare has had to stop shipping certain vials of their 10 mg/mL concentration due to issues meeting FDA manufacturing quality standards, and a no-return date has been set yet. Some of Accord's other packages of the same strength have been permanently discontinued. Teyro Labs (marketed through Apotex Inc.) has permanently stopped making all of their carboplatin sizes — the 50 mg/5 mL, 150 mg/15 mL, 450 mg/45 mL, and 600 mg/60 mL vials. Gland Pharma has also permanently discontinued their 50 mg/5 mL size.

On top of those permanent stops, there are factory production delays and shipping hold-ups affecting other makers. Fresenius Kabi's 10 mg/mL vials have a shipping delay, with the next release expected in November 2026. Hospira (Pfizer) is dealing with manufacturing delays across several sizes — their 600 mg/60 mL has limited supply with recovery expected around September–December 2026, their 150 mg/15 mL recovery is projected around December 2026–March 2027, and their 50 mg/5 mL and 450 mg/45 mL recoveries are estimated around December 2026–March 2027. Eugia's 450 mg/45 mL is on backorder due to higher-than-usual demand, with recovery expected in late October 2026. Notably, Eugia's 600 mg/60 mL and Gland Pharma's 150 mg/15 mL are currently reported as available from those manufacturers.

FDA reason code(s): Other; Discontinuation of the manufacture of the drug; Demand increase for the drug; Requirements related to complying with good manufacturing practices; Delay in shipping of the drug

Based on the manufacturer-reported reason(s) and notes on file with the FDA for Carboplatin Injection, summarized in plain English by HelloPharmacist. A drug can be short for more than one reason, and the FDA updates these as manufacturers report changes.

What should I do if I take Carboplatin Injection?

Carboplatin injection is currently on the FDA drug-shortage list. This is a chemotherapy medicine given in a clinic or hospital, and your care team manages the supply for you — so the practical steps here are mostly handled by the pharmacy and prescriber.

Several strengths still have an available source, including the 150 mg/15 mL and 600 mg/60 mL vials from certain makers. Other strengths currently have no available source, including some multiple-dose vials (50 mg/5 mL, 150 mg/15 mL, 450 mg/45 mL, and 600 mg/60 mL) and the 50 mg/5 mL single vial, which one manufacturer has discontinued. The 450 mg/45 mL is on backorder, with recovery reported around late October 2026.

The FDA lists several reasons, including manufacturing and shipping delays, higher demand, and some products being discontinued. Importantly, 5 of 9 manufacturers still report supply, so this affects only certain makers — not every source.

  • Do not skip or delay any treatment on your own — your care team is tracking this.
  • Ask your clinic whether your strength is still available and can be ordered through wholesalers or another manufacturer.
  • The same medicine is still listed from Teva and Eugia; your pharmacy may be able to source one of these, though it may not be in local stock.
  • If your exact strength is discontinued, ask your prescriber about a clinician-chosen alternative.

Manufacturer contact numbers are listed on this page for reference. This is general, national data and may not match your clinic's actual stock.

See “Where else can I get Carboplatin Injection?” below ↓ The same medicine from manufacturers not reporting a shortage, alternative dosage forms, and therapeutic equivalents with pricing.
If you are a patient:
  • Don’t stop or change the medication on your own — talk to your prescriber first.
  • If this is part of an ongoing or essential regimen (for example HIV treatment or prevention, seizure, heart, transplant, diabetes or mental-health medicines), do not skip or ration doses — contact your pharmacist or prescriber right away to arrange continued supply before you run out.
  • Ask your pharmacy to check other manufacturers, strengths, package sizes, and nearby stores.
  • Ask your prescriber whether a different strength, formulation, or the brand/generic version is appropriate.

Where else can I get Carboplatin Injection?

FDA shortages are manufacturer-reported — a company only shows up on the shortage list if it told the FDA it has a supply problem, so not every maker of Carboplatin Injection is necessarily short. Below we pull together the other still-marketed options that are not reported in shortage: the same medicine from manufacturers that haven’t reported a problem, and alternative dosage forms. These may still be out of stock at your pharmacy, and only your prescriber or pharmacist can decide what’s right for you.

Other drugs in the same treatment class

These are different medicines — not other versions of Carboplatin Injection — that fall in the same broad treatment class (antineoplastic - alkylating agents) . They are not automatic substitutes: they can differ in how they work, dosing, effectiveness, side effects and what they’re approved to treat. Do not switch on your own. How to read the Supply-Risk rating
Low (1–2)Multiple manufacturers still supplying and most strengths or pack sizes sourceable.
Medium (3)Some constraint — fewer suppliers or a notable share of NDCs unavailable.
High (4–5)Down to a single source, most strengths or pack sizes unsourceable, or a long-running outage.
Where does this data come from?
Shortage records come from the FDA Drug Shortages Database API via openFDA (/drug/shortages) — drug, manufacturer & contact, NDC/product, status, availability, reason, therapeutic category and posting/update dates. Current / To Be Discontinued = active; Resolved is kept for history. The Supply-Risk rating is assessed per active ingredient and adds the FDA NDC Directory (still-marketed manufacturers by ingredient & form); same-medicine and equivalent products use First Databank classification + CMS NADAC pricing; Medicaid use + most-affected states come from CMS Medicaid State Drug Utilization Data. Reference only — confirm current status with the manufacturer or FDA before acting on it.
