Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the piece that matters with this combo product: it contains phenylephrine, a decongestant that works a lot like a mild stimulant. It tightens blood vessels to dry up a stuffy nose, but in doing so it can nudge up your blood pressure and heart rate. 1,4-DMAA is itself a powerful stimulant that does the same kind of thing. Stacking the two could add up, theoretically raising your risk of a racing or pounding heart, a spike in blood pressure, headache, or feeling jittery and wired.

I'll be straight with you: this concern is based on how these ingredients act, not hard human studies, so it's a theoretical caution. But honestly, the bigger issue is that 1,4-DMAA isn't a safe or legal supplement ingredient. I'd steer clear of it entirely, and please check with your pharmacist before mixing.
