Acacia Rigidula + Caffeine , Sodium Benzoate
Caffeine , Sodium Benzoate brand name: Caffeine and Sodium Benzoate.
Caffeine , Sodium Benzoate falls into 2 drug categories that Acacia Rigidula can interact with; the most serious is rated moderate. Theoretically, Acacia rigidula products that are adulterated with beta-methylphenylethylamine (BMPEA) might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates.

These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Acacia Rigidula interacts with whole categories of medication. Caffeine , Sodium Benzoate falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Acacia Rigidula in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
1 of 2Why this applies to Caffeine , Sodium Benzoate
Caffeine , Sodium Benzoate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Acacia Rigidula interacts with.
In vitro research shows that BMPEA, an adulterant found in many Acacia rigidula products, inhibits CYP3A4 enzyme by 37%.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with this pairing. Some Acacia rigidula products have been found spiked with a hidden stimulant called BMPEA, and lab studies suggest BMPEA can partly block an enzyme (CYP3A4) that helps your body break down certain medicines. In theory, that slower breakdown could let a drug build up a bit. The thing is, this is only test-tube data, so we don't really know how much it matters in real life.
On top of that, both Acacia rigidula and caffeine act as stimulants. Stacking them could leave you feeling jittery, restless, or anxious, with a racing or pounding heartbeat and trouble sleeping. That overlap is honestly my bigger concern here. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, and remember many people are better off avoiding Acacia rigidula altogether.

STIMULANT DRUGS
2 of 2Caffeine , Sodium Benzoate also falls under STIMULANT DRUGS.
Constituents and adulterants found in Acacia rigidula can have stimulant effects.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: caffeine with sodium benzoate is itself a stimulant. Acacia rigidula products are marketed for energy partly because they may contain natural amine compounds (and some products have even been found laced with an unapproved stimulant called BMPEA). When you stack two stimulants together, their effects can pile on top of each other. That can mean a faster or pounding heartbeat, higher blood pressure, jitteriness, anxiety, or trouble sleeping.
To be fair, this concern is theoretical, based on how these ingredients behave rather than solid human studies. Still, because acacia rigidula products are poorly regulated and can carry hidden stimulants, I'd be cautious combining them. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them, especially if you have any heart or blood pressure concerns.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Caffeine , Sodium Benzoate page
“Caffeine and sodium benzoate is itself a stimulant medication, so the supplements most likely to cause trouble are the ones doing the same job. Seven of the 208 ingredients on file rate major, several of them stimulant herbs such as ephedra that can pile extra blood pressure and heart strain onto a drug already revving the nervous system.”

About Acacia Rigidula
What is Acacia Rigidula?
- Weight loss
- Energy and stimulation
- Boosting metabolism
- Appetite control
- Pre-workout/athletic performance
Acacia rigidula is a shrub from Texas and Mexico that is marketed in weight-loss and energy supplements. There is very little reliable human evidence that it works, and some products have been found to contain an unapproved stimulant drug (BMPEA), which raises real safety concerns. Most people should avoid it and talk to a pharmacist or doctor before trying any product containing it.
