Duloxetine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Acacia Rigidula interacts with.

Theoretically, Acacia rigidula products that are adulterated with beta-methylphenylethylamine (BMPEA) might increase the levels of CYP2D6 substrates.
In vitro research shows that BMPEA, an adulterant found in many Acacia rigidula products, strongly inhibits CYP2D6 enzyme.

Here's the concern with pairing Acacia rigidula with duloxetine (Cymbalta). Some of these supplements have been found spiked with a hidden stimulant called BMPEA. In lab studies, BMPEA strongly blocks an enzyme called CYP2D6, which is one of the pathways your body uses to clear duloxetine. If that enzyme gets slowed down, duloxetine could build up higher than expected, and that may mean more nausea, dry mouth, dizziness, trouble sleeping, sweating, or a faster heart rate.

I'll be honest though, this is mostly a theoretical worry based on test-tube research, not real people, so I don't want to alarm you. The bigger issue is that the stimulant itself can layer onto duloxetine's effects on the same brain chemicals. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before trying anything containing it.

What Is Duloxetine Used For?

Duloxetine delayed-release capsules treat major depressive disorder (MDD) and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) in adults. They also manage diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain (nerve pain from diabetes), fibromyalgia, and chronic musculoskeletal pain (such as chronic low back pain and pain from osteoarthritis) in adults.

GAD is also approved in pediatric patients 7 years and older for Cymbalta, Drizalma Sprinkle, and certain duloxetine delayed-release capsule products. Fibromyalgia is approved in patients 13 years and older for Cymbalta and some duloxetine delayed-release capsule products. Age-specific approvals vary by product — follow your prescriber's guidance on which product is right for your age group.
