Ibrutinib falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Acacia Rigidula interacts with.

Theoretically, Acacia rigidula products that are adulterated with beta-methylphenylethylamine (BMPEA) might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that BMPEA, an adulterant found in many Acacia rigidula products, inhibits CYP3A4 enzyme by 37%.

Here's the concern with pairing this supplement and Imbruvica (ibrutinib). Your body clears ibrutinib mainly through a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Some Acacia rigidula products have been found to contain a hidden stimulant, BMPEA, and in lab studies BMPEA slowed that enzyme by about a third. If that happened in a real person, ibrutinib could build up more than expected.

Ibrutinib isn't a prodrug, so higher levels usually mean stronger drug effects and more side effects, things like bruising, bleeding, irregular heartbeat, low blood counts, or infections. This is only theoretical, based on test-tube work, so don't panic. But because cancer drugs like this leave little room for error, please run any Acacia rigidula product past your oncologist or pharmacist first.

What Is Ibrutinib Used For?

Brand name: Imbruvica

Imbruvica (ibrutinib) is approved for adult patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) / small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL), including those with a specific genetic change called 17p deletion, and for adult patients with Waldenström's macroglobulinemia (WM), a rare type of blood cancer.

Imbruvica is also approved for chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGVHD) — a complication that can occur after a stem cell transplant — in adults and children aged 1 year and older whose condition did not respond to at least one prior treatment.
