These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Adrue interacts with whole categories of medication. Nitrazepam falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Adrue in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CNS DEPRESSANTS
1 of 2Why this applies to Nitrazepam
Nitrazepam falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Adrue interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Nitrazepam is a benzodiazepine sleeping pill, so it already works by calming your brain and making you drowsy. Adrue may have its own mild sedating effect. The concern here is simple: stacking the two together could add up, leaving you more sleepy than you bargained for. With nitrazepam, that might mean heavier morning grogginess, dizziness, poor balance (a real fall risk, especially for older folks), and slower thinking the next day.
I want to be honest about the evidence though. This warning comes from animal and lab studies, not solid human research, so it's more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. Still, since both can make you sleepy, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

BENZODIAZEPINES
2 of 2Nitrazepam also falls under BENZODIAZEPINES.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Nitrazepam is a benzodiazepine that calms the brain and helps you sleep, so it already brings on drowsiness, slowed reflexes, and sometimes a groggy, hungover feeling the next morning. Adrue has its own mild calming, sedative-like reputation in traditional use. Put them together and the worry is simple: the two sedating effects may stack up, leaving you more drowsy, less steady on your feet, and slower to react than you expect.
I'll be honest about the evidence here. This is based on animal research (one study showed adrue roughly quadrupled sleep time when paired with a related benzodiazepine), not human trials, so it's more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. Still, since both push in the same sleepy direction, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

About Adrue
What is Adrue?
- Nausea and vomiting
- Digestive upset, gas, and diarrhea
- Calming or sedative effect
- Traditional use for fevers and infections
Adrue (Cyperus articulatus) is a sedge whose rhizome has long been used in traditional medicine for nausea and other stomach complaints, and as a mild calming agent. Solid human studies are lacking, so its real benefits and safe doses are not well established. Talk to a pharmacist or doctor before using it, and avoid it during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
