CNS DEPRESSANTS
Why this applies to Amitriptyline
Amitriptyline falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Adrue interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to keep in mind with amitriptyline (Elavil): even on its own, it tends to make people sleepy. That's actually why doctors often have you take it at night. Adrue has been used traditionally as a calming, sedating herb, so the worry is simple: putting the two together could stack their drowsy effects on top of each other.
If that happens, you might feel extra groggy, foggy, dizzy, or unsteady on your feet, especially in the morning or if you stand up quickly. I'll be honest with you though, this caution comes from animal and lab studies, not solid human research, so it's more of a theoretical concern than a proven one. Still, since both can sedate you, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

About Adrue
What is Adrue?

Adrue (Cyperus articulatus) is a sedge whose rhizome has long been used in traditional medicine for nausea and other stomach complaints, and as a mild calming agent. Amitriptyline Is Linked to Lower Levels of 3 Nutrients
Natural Medicines records Amitriptyline as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Adrue — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
