Why this applies to Tadalafil

Tadalafil falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group African Wild Potato interacts with.

In vitro evidence shows that African wild potato extract can inhibit cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) enzyme activity by up to 86%. Theoretically, African wild potato might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4. However, in human research, African wild potato does not seem to affect the pharmacokinetics of Efavirenz, a CYP3A4 substrate. Until more is known, use African wild potato cautiously or avoid in patients taking drugs metabolized by CYP3A4. Some drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include lovastatin (Mevacor), ketoconazole (Nizoral), itraconazole (Sporanox), fexofenadine (Allegra), triazolam (Halcion), and numerous others.

Here's the gist: your body clears tadalafil mainly through a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In lab dishes, African wild potato slowed that enzyme down quite a bit. If the same thing happened in a person, tadalafil could hang around longer and build up, which may turn up its usual effects, things like headache, flushing, stuffy nose, indigestion, back or muscle aches, and lightheadedness when you stand. The bigger worry is a larger drop in blood pressure.

Now, the honest part: this is only test-tube evidence, and a human study with a similar drug showed no real change. So the risk is theoretical, not proven. Still, since concentrated supplement doses are stronger than any food amount, I'd run it by your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

What Is Tadalafil Used For?

Brand names: Cialis, Tadliq

Tadalafil tablets (including Cialis and generic tadalafil) are used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED), the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH — an enlarged prostate), or both conditions together. When used with the drug finasteride to start BPH treatment, this combination is recommended for up to 26 weeks.

Adcirca, Alyq (tablets), and Tadliq (oral suspension) are indicated specifically for pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH — high blood pressure in the lungs), to improve the ability to exercise.
