Insulin Aspart falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Annatto interacts with.

Animal studies suggest that certain annatto extracts may have hypoglycemic or hyperglycemic effects. Theoretically, taking annatto with antidiabetes drugs could reduce the therapeutic effects of these drugs or increase the risk for additive hypoglycemia. Monitor blood glucose levels closely.

Here's the thing to know if you're using insulin aspart (Fiasp) and thinking about an annatto supplement. Insulin aspart is a fast-acting insulin you inject to lower your blood sugar, and it works directly, so this isn't about your body breaking annatto down or activating it. The concern is simply that annatto might nudge your blood sugar on its own.

This interaction is theoretical and comes only from animal studies, so it's nothing to panic over. In theory, annatto could either lower your sugar (adding to your insulin and risking a hypoglycemia episode, with shakiness, sweating, or confusion) or work against your insulin. The annatto used as a food coloring is very unlikely to matter; concentrated supplement doses are the question mark. If you start one, check your glucose more closely and loop in your pharmacist or doctor first.

Annatto is a plant-based coloring made from the seeds of the achiote tree and is widely used as a safe food dye. While it has a long history in traditional medicine and contains antioxidant compounds, there is little high-quality human research supporting its use as a supplement. It can trigger allergic reactions in some people, so use caution and talk with your pharmacist or doctor.

What Is Insulin Aspart (rDNA Origin) Injection Used For?

Brand name: Fiasp

Insulin aspart is used to improve blood sugar (glucose) control in people with diabetes mellitus. It is approved for both type 1 and type 2 diabetes in adults, and for diabetes mellitus in pediatric patients.

Insulin Aspart Protamine and Insulin Aspart Mix 70/30 is a pre-mixed product that combines a rapid-acting and an intermediate-acting insulin aspart. It is approved to improve blood sugar control in adult patients with diabetes mellitus. It is not recommended for treating diabetic ketoacidosis, and because its ratio of rapid-acting to intermediate-acting insulin is fixed, it does not allow for separate mealtime versus background dose adjustments.
