Insulin Lispro Recombinant falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Annatto interacts with.

Animal studies suggest that certain annatto extracts may have hypoglycemic or hyperglycemic effects. Theoretically, taking annatto with antidiabetes drugs could reduce the therapeutic effects of these drugs or increase the risk for additive hypoglycemia. Monitor blood glucose levels closely.

Humalog (insulin lispro) is a fast-acting insulin you inject to bring your blood sugar down around meals. The concern with annatto here is mostly on paper. In some animal studies, annatto extracts seemed to nudge blood sugar either up or down, so in theory it could either work against your insulin or add to its sugar-lowering effect.

If annatto pushed your sugar lower on top of your insulin, you could see signs of low blood sugar like shakiness, sweating, a racing heart, or confusion. Keep in mind this is theoretical, and the small amount of annatto used as a food coloring is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated supplement doses are the bigger question mark. If you want to use annatto regularly, check your glucose closely and talk with your pharmacist or doctor first.
