Vildagliptin falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Annatto interacts with.

Animal studies suggest that certain annatto extracts may have hypoglycemic or hyperglycemic effects. Theoretically, taking annatto with antidiabetes drugs could reduce the therapeutic effects of these drugs or increase the risk for additive hypoglycemia. Monitor blood glucose levels closely.

Here's the honest picture with annatto and your vildagliptin (Galvus). This is a theory based mostly on animal research, not solid human studies. In those lab studies, certain concentrated annatto extracts seemed to nudge blood sugar in unpredictable ways, sometimes lowering it and sometimes raising it. So the concern cuts both ways: it could either add to vildagliptin's blood-sugar-lowering effect or work against it.

For most people, the small amount of annatto used as a food coloring is very unlikely to cause any problem. Concentrated supplement doses are the real question mark. If you do take an annatto supplement, just keep a closer eye on your readings, and watch for signs of low sugar like shakiness, sweating, or dizziness. Loop in your pharmacist or doctor before adding it so you can decide together.

Annatto is a plant-based coloring made from the seeds of the achiote tree and is widely used as a safe food dye.
