Arabinoxylan + Ivacaftor
Ivacaftor brand name: Kalydeco.
We found no known interaction between Arabinoxylan and Ivacaftor in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the two are separately associated with some of the same side effects, which would make a new symptom harder to attribute to one or the other.
Arabinoxylan and Ivacaftor
We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.
No Known Interaction Found
We did not find a documented interaction between Ivacaftor and Arabinoxylan in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.
If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.
Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Ivacaftor
Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Ivacaftor is filed under 2 classifications — cytochrome p450 3a4 (cyp3a4) substrates, oral drugs. Arabinoxylan has documented interactions with 1 drug class — the most serious being antidiabetes drugs (moderate) — and none of Ivacaftor’s classifications are among them.
Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

The most serious there right now: Activated Charcoal (major), Grapefruit (major), St. John's Wort (major), Acacia Rigidula (moderate) and Adrafinil (moderate).
By severity: 3 major · 94 moderate · 41 minor.
From our pharmacist’s overview on the Ivacaftor page
“For someone with cystic fibrosis, ivacaftor (Kalydeco) is the drug keeping a faulty channel protein working, and the liver clears it through one enzyme, CYP3A4. This list earns genuine care because 121 of its 138 entries push on that same enzyme, nudging ivacaftor levels up or down, and three carry a major rating: grapefruit, St.”

About Arabinoxylan
What is Arabinoxylan?
- Blood sugar support
- Digestive and gut health (prebiotic)
- Cholesterol and triglyceride support

- Metabolic syndrome
Arabinoxylan is a type of dietary fiber found in cereal grains that acts as a prebiotic and may modestly affect blood sugar and blood fats. The evidence for most uses is early and limited, so it should not replace proven treatments. If you are considering it, talk with your pharmacist or doctor first.
Fiber extracted from the cell walls of cereal grains (such as wheat bran, rice bran, corn, rye, oat, and barley) · Powder, capsules, and a modified rice-bran product known as MGN-3 (Biobran)
An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Arabinoxylan is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Arabinoxylan record says about it on its own.
Arabinoxylan: dosing
There is no official or standardized dose of arabinoxylan, and amounts used in studies have varied widely depending on the product and the goal. The best approach is to follow the directions on the specific product label and to start low and increase slowly to limit gas and bloating.

About Ivacaftor
What Is Ivacaftor Used For?
Brand name: Kalydeco
Kalydeco (ivacaftor) is used to treat cystic fibrosis (CF) in patients aged 1 month and older who have at least one mutation in the CFTR gene that responds to ivacaftor. A specific genetic test is used to confirm whether a patient's mutation qualifies.
There is a long list of CFTR mutations for which Kalydeco is approved — including G551D, R117H, F508C, S549N, and many others. If your or your child's mutation is unknown, an FDA-cleared CF mutation test should be done first to confirm eligibility.
