Dexlansoprazole falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Astaxanthin interacts with.

Theoretically, astaxanthin may decrease levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that astaxanthin induces CYP3A4 enzyme activity in human hepatocytes. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the basic idea with Dexlansoprazole (Dexilant) and astaxanthin. Your body uses a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to help break this acid-reducer down. Lab tests suggest astaxanthin might speed that enzyme up a bit. If that happened in real life, your body could clear the drug a little faster, which in theory might make it work less well, so you could notice heartburn or reflux symptoms creeping back.

The reassuring part is that this comes only from test-tube and cell studies, and it has not been seen in actual people. So it's more of a theoretical concern than something I see causing problems day to day. Dexlansoprazole isn't a prodrug here, so the direction is reduced effect, not buildup. If you take both and your reflux gets harder to control, check in with your pharmacist or doctor.

Astaxanthin is a reddish carotenoid pigment with strong antioxidant activity in the lab, and it is widely promoted for skin, eye, heart, and exercise benefits. What Is Dexlansoprazole Used For?

Brand name: Dexilant Solutab

Dexlansoprazole delayed-release capsules — sold as Dexilant and available as a generic — are used in patients 12 years of age and older to heal erosive esophagitis (EE), which is damage to the esophagus caused by stomach acid. They are also used to keep that damage healed and relieve heartburn over time.

In addition, dexlansoprazole treats heartburn from non-erosive gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) — that is, acid reflux that causes symptoms without visible damage to the esophagus. Both Dexilant and generic dexlansoprazole delayed-release capsules share these same approved uses.
