These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Bael interacts with whole categories of medication. Ethinyl Estradiol, Norethindrone, Ferrous Fumarate falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Bael in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Minor).
CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES
1 of 2Why this applies to Ethinyl Estradiol, Norethindrone, Ferrous Fumarate
Ethinyl Estradiol, Norethindrone, Ferrous Fumarate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Bael interacts with.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP1A2 include amitriptyline (Elavil), haloperidol (Haldol), ondansetron (Zofran), propranolol (Inderal), theophylline (Theo-Dur, others), verapamil (Calan, Isoptin, others), and others. Use bael cautiously or avoid in patients taking these drugs.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for your birth control pill (the combo of ethinyl estradiol, norethindrone, and iron). In lab dish studies, bael and one of its compounds (marmesinin) slowed down an enzyme called CYP1A2. The estrogen part of your pill is partly handled by this enzyme, so in theory bael could let a little more estrogen build up. That might mean slightly more of the usual estrogen-related side effects, like nausea, breast tenderness, headaches, or bloating.
The good news: this has only been seen in a test tube, never in real people, and it's rated a minor concern. Everyday food amounts of bael fruit are very unlikely to matter. If you want to take concentrated bael supplements regularly, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
2 of 2Ethinyl Estradiol, Norethindrone, Ferrous Fumarate also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include lovastatin (Mevacor), ketoconazole (Nizoral), itraconazole (Sporanox), fexofenadine (Allegra), triazolam (Halcion), and numerous others. Use bael cautiously or avoid in patients taking these drugs.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Your birth control pill contains ethinyl estradiol, an estrogen that your liver clears partly through an enzyme called CYP3A4. In a lab dish, bael and a couple of its plant compounds slowed that same enzyme down. If that happened in people, estrogen levels could drift a little higher, which might mean more of the usual estrogen-related effects like nausea, breast tenderness, bloating, or breakthrough spotting.
Here is the reassuring part: this is only a test-tube finding and has never been reported in real patients, so the concern is theoretical and rated as minor. Everyday culinary amounts of bael fruit are very unlikely to matter. Still, before adding a concentrated bael supplement, it is worth a quick check with your pharmacist or doctor.

About Bael
What is Bael?
- Diarrhea and dysentery
- Indigestion and other digestive complaints
- Constipation
- Blood sugar support
- General wellness in traditional medicine
Bael is a fruit-bearing tree long used in traditional Indian (Ayurvedic) medicine, mostly for digestive problems like diarrhea and indigestion. Modern human evidence for its medicinal benefits is very limited, so it should be viewed mainly as a food and traditional remedy rather than a proven treatment. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using bael as a supplement, especially if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a health condition.
