Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS
Why this applies to Methyldopa
Methyldopa falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Basil interacts with.
Animal research suggests that basil extract can reduce systolic and diastolic blood pressure.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: methyldopa lowers your blood pressure, and animal studies hint that concentrated basil extract may nudge blood pressure down a bit too. Put them together and, in theory, the two could add up and push your numbers a little lower than expected.
If that happened, you might notice dizziness, lightheadedness, feeling faint when you stand up, or unusual tiredness, which are already common with methyldopa. I want to be honest though: this concern comes only from lab and animal research, not solid human studies, so it's a soft maybe rather than a sure thing. Cooking with basil in your food is very unlikely to matter. If you're thinking about a concentrated basil supplement or oil, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Methyldopa page
“Alcohol is the entry I would read first. Methyldopa (Aldomet) can be hard on the liver by itself, and 38 of the 173 supplement and herbal ingredients here, beer and wine included, carry liver risks that could stack on top of that.”

Methyldopa Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Methyldopa as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Basil — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
