Bendroflumethiazide is a thiazide water pill that lowers blood pressure by helping your body get rid of extra salt and fluid. The concern here is simple math: basil may have a mild blood-pressure-lowering effect of its own, so stacking it on top of your medication could, in theory, push your pressure down a little too far.

If that happened, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, or faint, especially when standing up quickly. I want to be honest, though, this is based only on animal research, not human studies, and the everyday basil you cook with is very unlikely to cause any trouble. The bigger question marks are concentrated basil supplements or essential oils. If you use those regularly, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on your readings.
