ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS
Why this applies to Amlodipine Benzoate
Amlodipine Benzoate falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Beer interacts with.
Clinical research suggests that consumption of alcohol can increase both systolic and diastolic blood pressure. However, acute alcohol intoxication can also increase the risk of hypotension and additive effects with antihypertensive drugs.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the thing about mixing beer with your amlodipine (Katerzia): alcohol can pull your blood pressure in two different directions, and that's what makes it tricky. Drinking regularly over time tends to raise blood pressure, which can work against the very thing amlodipine is doing for you. But a heavier session of drinking can do the opposite and drop your pressure too low, especially since amlodipine already relaxes your blood vessels.
If your pressure dips, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, or flushed, or notice your heart racing, and standing up quickly could make you feel faint. The research here is real but not super strong, so I wouldn't panic. Just be honest with your doctor or pharmacist about how much you drink so they can keep your numbers on track.

About Beer
What is Beer?
- Social and recreational drinking
- Relaxation
- Heart health (popular belief)
- Bone health (popular belief)
- Source of antioxidants and B vitamins
Beer is an alcoholic beverage that contains some minerals, B vitamins, and plant compounds from hops and grain, but it is not a health supplement. Any possible benefits come only from light-to-moderate intake, and they are easily outweighed by the well-known harms of alcohol. The safest amount of alcohol for health is none, and beer should be avoided in pregnancy and breastfeeding.
About Amlodipine
What Is Amlodipine Used For?
Brand name: Katerzia
Amlodipine lowers high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks. It can be used alone or with other blood pressure or angina medicines.
It is also used for chronic stable angina, vasospastic angina (Prinzmetal's or variant angina), and angiographically documented coronary artery disease in patients without heart failure or an ejection fraction below 40%. The Sdamlo oral solution label lists the high blood pressure use for adults and children 6 years and older, and the coronary artery disease uses for adults.
