Beet + Minoxidil
Minoxidil brand names: Loniten, Rogaine, Minoxidil.
Beet has a minor interaction with Minoxidil. Beet and beetroot contain nitrates, which can cause vasodilation, potentially leading to lower blood pressure.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Why this applies to Minoxidil
Minoxidil falls under Antihypertensive Drugs — the group Beet interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here is the simple version. Both beets and Minoxidil can relax and widen your blood vessels, just by different routes. Minoxidil is a vasodilator working to lower your blood pressure, and the nitrate in beets can nudge blood pressure down a little too. So in theory, stacking them could add up and push your pressure lower than expected.
In practice, though, the effect from beets is usually small and short-lived, and some studies found no real change at all. If you do notice dizziness, lightheadedness, a faster heartbeat, or feeling faint when you stand up, that is worth mentioning. Food amounts of beets are unlikely to be a problem. Before adding concentrated beetroot juice or supplements, just check with your pharmacist or doctor.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Minoxidil page
“American hellebore heads the concerns for anyone taking minoxidil (Loniten, Rogaine), because even small amounts of its alkaloids lower blood pressure on their own, a dangerous match with one of the most potent pressure-lowering drugs prescribed. It is one of four major-rated entries among the 139 supplements and herbs on record, and t…”

About Beet
What is Beet?
- High blood pressure
- Exercise and athletic performance

- General antioxidant/anti-inflammatory support
- Liver and digestive support
Beet, especially beetroot juice, is a nitrate-rich food that may modestly lower blood pressure and slightly improve exercise performance in some people. It is generally safe as a food, but supplement effects are modest and not a substitute for prescribed treatment, so talk with your pharmacist or doctor before relying on it.

Minoxidil Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Minoxidil as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Beet — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
