Theoretically, berberine may increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
Clinical research shows that berberine may lower blood glucose levels. Theoretically, berberine might have additive effects with antidiabetes drugs and increase the risk of hypoglycemia.

Here's the simple version: berberine has its own blood-sugar-lowering action, and dapagliflozin (Farxiga) lowers blood sugar too by helping your kidneys flush out extra glucose in your urine. Put the two together and the effects can stack up, so in theory your blood sugar could dip lower than expected. That's what we call hypoglycemia, and it can show up as shakiness, sweating, dizziness, a racing heart, or feeling unusually tired or confused.

Now, the reassuring part: this concern is mostly theoretical, based on how each works rather than strong studies of the two combined. Dapagliflozin by itself rarely causes serious lows. Still, if you'd like to try berberine, check with your pharmacist or doctor first and keep an eye on your numbers at home.

What Is Dapagliflozin Used For?

Brand name: Farxiga

Dapagliflozin is used for several serious conditions. It helps improve blood sugar control in adults and children aged 10 and older with type 2 diabetes (alongside diet and exercise). It also reduces the risk of hospitalization for heart failure in adults with type 2 diabetes who have established cardiovascular disease or multiple cardiovascular risk factors.

Farxiga (dapagliflozin) is additionally approved to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death, hospitalization, and urgent visits due to heart failure in adults with heart failure — and to slow the progression of chronic kidney disease, including reducing the risk of kidney failure and cardiovascular death, in adults with chronic kidney disease at risk of getting worse.
