Here's the simple version: this isn't about how your body breaks down paliperidone (Invega). Instead, both bergamot and paliperidone can independently make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Bergamot oil contains a compound called bergapten, and certain antipsychotics like paliperidone are also listed as drugs that can cause photosensitivity. Put them together and you may sunburn faster than expected.

A couple of things worth knowing. This concern centers on topical bergamot essential oil applied to the skin, not the oral bergamot extract people take for cholesterol, and it's a theoretical caution based on how these ingredients behave, not strong real-world proof. Still, it's easy to play it safe with sunscreen and covering up. If you're using either one, run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

Bergamot is a Mediterranean citrus fruit, and its standardized extract is most often used to support cholesterol and heart health, with some early but promising research. About Paliperidone

What Is Paliperidone Used For?

Brand name: Invega

Paliperidone treats schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder. The extended-release tablets (Invega and generic paliperidone) are approved for schizophrenia in adults and adolescents ages 12–17, and for schizoaffective disorder in adults.

Several injectable formulations are also available, each with specific roles. Invega Sustenna and Erzofri extended-release are once-monthly injections approved for schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder in adults. Invega Trinza is a once-every-3-month injection for schizophrenia in adults who have already been stabilized on a once-monthly paliperidone palmitate injection for at least four months. Invega Hafyera is a once-every-6-month injection for schizophrenia in adults already stabilized on a once-monthly or every-3-month paliperidone palmitate injection.
