Penicillin VK falls under ANTIBIOTIC DRUGS — the group Bifidobacterium Breve interacts with.

Theoretically, taking Bifidobacterium breve with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of B. breve.
Since B. breve preparations usually contain live and active organisms, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and B. breve preparations by at least 2 hours.

Here's the simple version: Penicillin VK is an antibiotic, and antibiotics don't know the difference between bad germs and the friendly bacteria in your probiotic. Bifidobacterium breve is a live, active organism, so taking it at the same time as your penicillin can kill off a good chunk of those helpful bugs before they get a chance to do their job. That means the probiotic may simply not work as well.

The good news is this doesn't make your penicillin any less effective or any more risky, and it won't cause new side effects. It just shortchanges the probiotic. A practical fix is to space them out by at least 2 hours. If you're unsure about timing, your pharmacist can help you map out a schedule.
