Dapagliflozin falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Black Seed interacts with.

Theoretically, taking black seed with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Some clinical research and numerous animal studies suggest that black seed, especially its constituent thymoquinone, can have hypoglycemic effects.

Here's the simple version: black seed may gently lower blood sugar on its own, mostly thanks to a compound called thymoquinone. If you pair it with dapagliflozin (Farxiga), which already works to bring your blood sugar down, the two could add up and push your numbers a little too low.

This isn't about black seed changing how your body breaks the drug down. It's more of a teamwork effect on blood sugar. The research behind it is early and a bit mixed, so it's a possible concern, not a sure thing. Small amounts used as a kitchen spice are unlikely to matter much. Concentrated supplement doses are where I'd be more careful. Watch for shakiness, sweating, dizziness, or confusion, and check in with your pharmacist or doctor before adding it.

What Is Dapagliflozin Used For?

Brand name: Farxiga

Dapagliflozin is used for several serious conditions. It helps improve blood sugar control in adults and children aged 10 and older with type 2 diabetes (alongside diet and exercise). It also reduces the risk of hospitalization for heart failure in adults with type 2 diabetes who have established cardiovascular disease or multiple cardiovascular risk factors.

Farxiga (dapagliflozin) is additionally approved to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death, hospitalization, and urgent visits due to heart failure in adults with heart failure — and to slow the progression of chronic kidney disease, including reducing the risk of kidney failure and cardiovascular death, in adults with chronic kidney disease at risk of getting worse.
