Theoretically, taking black seed with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Clinical research suggests that black seed powder and oil might reduce blood pressure by 2-3 mmHg. In animal research, black seed modestly reduces blood pressure and concomitant use of black seed and amlodipine (Norvasc) or metoprolol (Lopressor) increased the blood pressure lowering effects of these drugs.

Here's the simple version: methyclothiazide is a water pill that lowers your blood pressure by helping your body shed extra salt and fluid. Black seed appears to nudge blood pressure down a little on its own, by roughly 2 to 3 mmHg in studies. So when you pair the two, the lowering effects can stack and push your pressure a bit lower than you intended.

For most people that's a small effect, but it could leave you feeling lightheaded, dizzy, or wobbly when you stand up, especially since this drug already pulls fluid out. Food amounts of black seed as a spice are unlikely to cause trouble. Concentrated supplement doses are where I'd be more careful. Before adding it, check in with your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on your numbers.

Here's the gist with methyclothiazide and black seed. Methyclothiazide is a thiazide water pill, and one of its known quirks is that it can lower your potassium over time. Black seed has shown its own mild water-pill-like effect in animal studies, so the worry is that stacking the two could push potassium down a little further.

I want to be honest about how soft this evidence is: it's only from lab and animal work, not people, so this is more theoretical than proven. Still, low potassium can cause real symptoms like muscle cramps, weakness, fatigue, or an irregular heartbeat. A pinch of black seed as a kitchen spice is unlikely to matter, but concentrated supplement doses are where I'd be more careful. If you want to try a black seed supplement, check with your pharmacist or doctor first, especially since your potassium can be monitored with a simple blood test.

What Is Methyclothiazide Used For?

  • Methyclothiazide is used to treat high blood pressure. Methyclothiazide is also used to treat edema (fluid retention; excess fluid held in body tissues) caused by various medical problems, including heart, kidney, and liver disease and to treat edema caused by using certain medications including estrogen and corticosteroids. Methyclothiazide is in a class of medications called diuretics ('water pills'). It works by causing the kidneys to get rid of unneeded water and salt from the body into the urine.

  • High blood pressure is a common condition and when not treated, can cause damage to the brain, heart, blood vessels, kidneys and other parts of the body. Damage to these organs may cause heart disease, a heart attack, heart failure, stroke, kidney failure, loss of vision, and other problems. In addition to taking medication, making lifestyle changes will also help to control your blood pressure. These changes include eating a diet that is low in fat and salt, maintaining a healthy weight, exercising at least 30 minutes most days, not smoking, and using alcohol in moderation.
