Olanzapine falls under SEROTONERGIC DRUGS — the group Black Seed interacts with.

Theoretically, combining serotonergic drugs with black seed might increase the risk of serotonergic side effects, including serotonin syndrome and cerebral vasoconstrictive disorders.
Animal research suggests that black seed can increase brain serotonin levels. In one case report, a 35-year-old man undergoing endoscopic surgery experienced immediate postoperative serotonin syndrome that was likely associated with the use of black seed oil 600 mg daily starting 4 days before surgery, and precipitated by the use of serotonergic pain medications, including fentanyl and oxycodone. Monitor patients for signs of serotonin syndrome and other serotonergic side effects if using black seed with serotonergic drugs.

Here's the gist: black seed may nudge serotonin levels up in the brain, and olanzapine also touches serotonin signaling. In theory, using them together could add up and raise the small risk of too much serotonin activity. Signs of that include agitation, a racing heart, sweating, shivering, muscle twitching, or feeling confused.

I want to keep this in perspective, though. The evidence here is weak, mostly animal studies plus a single case report where black seed was combined with strong opioid pain medicines. With olanzapine alone, a true reaction is unlikely. Food-amount black seed is even less of a concern than concentrated supplement doses. Still, before starting a black seed supplement, run it by your pharmacist or doctor.

About Olanzapine

What Is Olanzapine Used For?

Brand name: Zyprexa

Olanzapine treats schizophrenia and the manic or mixed episodes of bipolar I disorder in both adults and adolescents (ages 13–17). It can also be used alongside valproate or lithium to treat manic or mixed episodes in adults. When combined with fluoxetine, olanzapine tablets and orally disintegrating tablets are used to treat depressive episodes associated with bipolar I disorder and treatment-resistant depression in adults.

Olanzapine intramuscular injection (short-acting) is used by healthcare providers to quickly calm acute agitation in adults with schizophrenia or bipolar I mania. Zyprexa Relprevv — a separate, long-acting intramuscular formulation available only through a restricted program — is indicated specifically for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults.
