Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Ibuprofen, Pseudoephedrine
Ibuprofen, Pseudoephedrine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Boswellia Serrata interacts with.
In vitro research shows that Boswellia serrata gum resin inhibits CYP2C9 enzymes.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
This combination product pairs ibuprofen (a pain and inflammation reliever) with pseudoephedrine (a decongestant). The ibuprofen part is partly cleared by a liver enzyme called CYP2C9. In lab studies, boswellia appears to slow that enzyme down, so in theory ibuprofen could clear a little more slowly and build up. That might mean a bit more chance of typical ibuprofen side effects like stomach upset, heartburn, or, with regular use, irritation of the stomach lining or effects on the kidneys.
I want to be honest though: this is only a theoretical concern from test-tube data, not something proven in people. For most folks taking it occasionally, it is unlikely to cause trouble. Still, if you use this often, it is worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor.
