Olaparib falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Boswellia Serrata interacts with.

Theoretically, Boswellia serrata might increase or decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that Boswellia serrata gum resin inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes. Other in vitro research shows that Boswellia serrata extract inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes at most concentrations, although it may modestly induce enzyme activity at low concentrations.

Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear olaparib (Lynparza) out of your system. In lab studies, boswellic acids from boswellia mostly slow this same enzyme down. If that happens in people, olaparib could clear more slowly and build up a bit, which might mean stronger side effects like nausea, tiredness, low blood counts (showing up as easy bruising, infections, or shortness of breath), or stomach upset.

Here is the honest part: this is only a theoretical concern based on test-tube research, not real patient cases, and boswellia has even nudged the enzyme the other way at low amounts. Since olaparib is a serious cancer drug, please don't start or stop anything on your own. Just run boswellia past your oncologist or pharmacist first.

About Olaparib

What Is Olaparib Used For?

Brand name: Lynparza

Lynparza (olaparib) is used to treat adults with certain ovarian, fallopian tube, or primary peritoneal cancers that carry BRCA or other DNA-repair gene mutations — both as a maintenance therapy after platinum-based chemotherapy (including in combination with bevacizumab for some patients) and for recurrent disease. It is also approved for HER2-negative breast cancer with a germline BRCA mutation, both in early high-risk disease (adjuvant setting) and in metastatic disease.

Lynparza is additionally used as maintenance therapy for adults with germline BRCA-mutated metastatic pancreatic adenocarcinoma whose disease has not progressed on first-line platinum-based chemotherapy, and for adults with certain gene-mutated metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer — either alone (after prior enzalutamide or abiraterone) or in combination with abiraterone and prednisone or prednisolone. All uses require testing for specific genetic mutations using an FDA-approved companion diagnostic before starting treatment.
