Here's the idea behind this one. Doxorubicin is partly cleared from your body through a process called glucuronidation, where the liver tags the drug so it can be flushed out. A small clinical study found that eating cabbage and Brussels sprouts every day can speed up this pathway, which in theory could lower the amount of certain glucuronidated drugs in your system.

For doxorubicin, that could mean slightly faster clearance, and we never want anything quietly weakening a cancer treatment. That said, this is mostly theoretical for this specific drug, and normal amounts of cabbage in your meals are unlikely to cause real trouble. Before adding large or daily concentrated cabbage servings, please check with your oncology team or pharmacist first.

Doxorubicin is used to treat a wide range of cancers. It is given as part of combination chemotherapy for women with breast cancer that has spread to the lymph nodes after surgery, and it is used for many other cancers — from blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma to solid tumors like bone and soft tissue sarcomas.

It is considered a broad-spectrum cancer fighter, meaning it is active against many different tumor types. It is almost always given alongside other chemotherapy drugs rather than on its own.
