Here's the simple version: glipizide already lowers your blood sugar by nudging your pancreas to release more insulin. Some animal and lab studies hint that cabbage may have its own mild blood-sugar-lowering effect. Stacked together, the theory is that your numbers could dip a little lower than expected, raising the chance of hypoglycemia (shakiness, sweating, dizziness, headache, or feeling confused or weak).

I want to keep this in perspective. This is a theoretical concern based on pharmacology, not strong human studies. Eating cabbage as a normal food is very unlikely to cause trouble. Large amounts or concentrated cabbage supplements are where I'd pay more attention. If you go that route, check in with your pharmacist or doctor and keep an eye on your blood sugar readings.

What Is Glipizide Used For?

Glipizide tablets and glipizide extended-release tablets are both used as an add-on to diet and exercise to improve blood sugar (glucose) control in adults with type 2 diabetes. It is not used for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis (a serious complication of uncontrolled blood sugar).
