DIURETIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Captopril, Hydrochlorothiazide
Captopril, Hydrochlorothiazide falls under DIURETIC DRUGS — the group Castor Bean interacts with.
There is some concern that overuse of castor oil might compound diuretic-induced potassium loss.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to keep in mind with your Capozide. That hydrochlorothiazide piece is a water pill, and one of its known quirks is that it can pull potassium out of your body along with extra fluid and salt. Castor oil, when used as a laxative, can also cause you to lose potassium through your gut, especially if you take a lot of it or use it for several days. Stack those two together and your potassium could drop lower than it should.
I'll be honest, this is mostly a theoretical concern based on how each one works, not something proven in studies. Still, low potassium can leave you feeling tired, crampy, weak, or give you an irregular heartbeat. A rare, occasional dose of castor oil is unlikely to be a problem, but please don't lean on it regularly without checking with your pharmacist or doctor first.

About Castor Bean
What is Castor Bean?
- Constipation relief
- Skin and hair care
- Labor induction (folk use)
- Topical anti-inflammatory packs
- Joint and muscle massage
Castor bean is the source of castor oil, a well-known stimulant laxative, but the raw seeds contain ricin, a potent and potentially deadly poison. The processed oil is generally considered safe when used as directed, while the whole or chewed seeds should never be eaten. Always talk to a pharmacist or doctor before using castor oil, especially during pregnancy or for children.
About Captopril and Hydrochlorothiazide
What Is Captopril and Hydrochlorothiazide Used For?
Brand names: Capozide, Acezide
Captopril and hydrochlorothiazide tablets are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). The two ingredients work together to lower blood pressure more effectively than either one alone — their effects are approximately additive.
The combination tablet may be used as a starting treatment or substituted when a patient has already been stabilized on the individual ingredients separately. It is generally suitable for patients with normal kidney function; patients with impaired kidney function should only use it when other treatments haven't worked or have caused unacceptable side effects.
