Ceylon Cinnamon + Spironolactone
Spironolactone brand names: Aldactone, Spiroton, Carospir.
Ceylon Cinnamon has a moderate interaction with Spironolactone. Theoretically, Ceylon cinnamon might have additive effects with antihypertensive drugs and increase the risk of hypotension.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS
Why this applies to Spironolactone
Spironolactone falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Ceylon Cinnamon interacts with.
Animal research shows that Ceylon cinnamon extract has vasorelaxant properties and reduces blood pressure in rat models of hypertension, possibly via inhibition of calcium influx through L-type voltage-sensitive channels.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist: spironolactone (Aldactone, Carospir) lowers your blood pressure, and Ceylon cinnamon, at least in lab and animal studies, may nudge blood pressure down too. Put them together and there's a theoretical chance the two add up, leaving your pressure a little lower than expected. That could show up as feeling dizzy or lightheaded, especially when you stand up quickly, plus tiredness or a touch of headache.
I want to be honest about the strength here: this is based on animal research, not solid human studies, so it's far from a sure thing. A sprinkle of cinnamon on your oatmeal is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated supplement doses are where I'd pay more attention. If you'd like to try them, just check with your pharmacist or doctor first and keep an eye on your blood pressure readings.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Spironolactone page
“Potassium is the supplement I check first for anyone on spironolactone (Aldactone, Carospir), because this water pill works by holding potassium in the body, and supplementing more on top of that can push blood levels too high. About Ceylon Cinnamon
What is Ceylon Cinnamon?
- Blood sugar support
- High cholesterol
- Indigestion and gas
- Antimicrobial
- General flavoring and culinary use
Ceylon cinnamon is the so-called 'true' cinnamon, valued as a spice and used in traditional medicine for blood sugar, cholesterol, and digestion. Evidence for most health benefits is limited and mixed, but as a food it is generally safe and contains far less coumarin than common cassia cinnamon. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before taking concentrated supplements, especially if you have a health condition or take medications.
About Spironolactone
What Is Spironolactone Used For?
Brand names: Aldactone, Spiroton, Carospir
Spironolactone tablets (including Aldactone) are used to treat moderate-to-severe heart failure, high blood pressure, and fluid retention (edema) caused by liver cirrhosis or nephrotic syndrome. They are also used to diagnose and manage primary hyperaldosteronism — a condition where the adrenal glands produce too much of the hormone aldosterone.
Spironolactone oral suspension shares several of these uses — heart failure, high blood pressure, and edema from liver cirrhosis — but is not the same as Aldactone and is not therapeutically interchangeable with it. Your prescriber will choose the right form for your situation.
