Ceylon Cinnamon + Methyldopa
Methyldopa brand names: Aldomet, Methyldopa.
Ceylon Cinnamon has a moderate interaction with Methyldopa. Theoretically, Ceylon cinnamon might have additive effects with antihypertensive drugs and increase the risk of hypotension.

ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS
Why this applies to Methyldopa
Methyldopa falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Ceylon Cinnamon interacts with.
Animal research shows that Ceylon cinnamon extract has vasorelaxant properties and reduces blood pressure in rat models of hypertension, possibly via inhibition of calcium influx through L-type voltage-sensitive channels.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist: methyldopa already works to lower your blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels. Animal studies hint that Ceylon cinnamon may relax blood vessels too. Put them together and, in theory, the blood-pressure-lowering could add up a bit more than expected.
If your pressure dipped too low, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, drowsy, or wobbly when standing up quickly (methyldopa can already cause some of that on its own). I want to be honest with you though: this concern comes from lab and rat research, not human studies, so it's more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. The sprinkle of cinnamon in your oatmeal almost certainly won't matter. Concentrated cinnamon supplements are where I'd be a little more thoughtful. If you take those, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor and keep an eye on your readings.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Methyldopa page
“Alcohol is the entry I would read first. Methyldopa (Aldomet) can be hard on the liver by itself, and 38 of the 173 supplement and herbal ingredients here, beer and wine included, carry liver risks that could stack on top of that.”

About Ceylon Cinnamon
What is Ceylon Cinnamon?
- Blood sugar support
- High cholesterol
- Indigestion and gas
- Antimicrobial
- General flavoring and culinary use
Ceylon cinnamon is the so-called 'true' cinnamon, valued as a spice and used in traditional medicine for blood sugar, cholesterol, and digestion. Evidence for most health benefits is limited and mixed, but as a food it is generally safe and contains far less coumarin than common cassia cinnamon. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before taking concentrated supplements, especially if you have a health condition or take medications.

Methyldopa Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Methyldopa as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Ceylon Cinnamon — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
