Here's the simple version: this combination pill (Metaglip) contains glipizide, which pushes your body to release more insulin, and metformin, which lowers how much sugar your liver makes. Chicory, in lab and animal studies, seems to have its own mild blood-sugar-lowering effect. So the worry is that stacking the two could nudge your glucose a little lower than expected.

I want to be honest about how soft this evidence is. It's theoretical, based on test-tube and animal research, not real human cases. If anything happened, it would likely be mild signs of low sugar from the glipizide part: shakiness, sweating, hunger, or feeling lightheaded. The chicory in a cup of coffee substitute almost certainly won't matter, but concentrated inulin supplements are worth mentioning to your pharmacist or doctor, especially if you check your sugar at home.
