Risperidone falls under PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS — the group Chlorophyll interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use of chlorophyll with photosensitizing drugs may have additive effects.
Chlorophyll has been reported to cause photosensitization. In two case reports, pseudoporphyria developed after oral intake of chlorophyll. Theoretically, concomitant use with other photosensitizing drugs may exacerbate this effect.

This one is about your skin, not how your body breaks down risperidone. Risperidone can sometimes make your skin a bit more sensitive to sunlight, and chlorophyll supplements have also been linked (in a couple of rare case reports) to a sun-sensitivity reaction. Put them together and the worry is that, in theory, they could add up and make a sunburn-like rash or irritation a little more likely after time outdoors.

I want to be honest that this is a theoretical concern based on weak, case-report level evidence, so don't panic. The simple, practical move is to be smart about sun: use sunscreen, wear a hat, and cover up if you'll be outside a lot. If you notice unusual redness, blistering, or a rash, check in with your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

What Is Risperidone Used For?

Brand names: Risperdal, Perseris

Risperidone is prescribed for three main conditions: schizophrenia (a disorder affecting how a person thinks, feels, and perceives reality), acute manic or mixed episodes in Bipolar I Disorder, and irritability associated with autistic disorder — including aggression, self-injury, temper tantrums, and rapid mood swings.

For bipolar mania, it can be used alone or alongside lithium or valproate. It is approved for use in both adults and certain age groups of children and adolescents, depending on the condition being treated.
