Clivers and Digoxin

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Digoxin and Clivers in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Clivers at all — not against Digoxin, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Clivers safety at a glance

Clivers overall Use caution Generally considered low-risk in food-like amounts, but human safety data are limited.
Pregnancy Avoid Not enough safety information, so it is best avoided during pregnancy.
Breastfeeding Avoid No reliable safety data exist, so avoid use while breastfeeding.

Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.

What Digoxin’s Own FDA Label Lists

This is not an interaction — none of it involves Clivers. These are the most notable effects listed in the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Digoxin’s own FDA label, for the medication by itself. Knowing the drug’s own list makes it easier to work out the likely cause if something new turns up while you take both. 7 of them are worth acting on rather than waiting out — marked below.

  • A slow heartbeat Worth acting on
  • Hallucinations Worth acting on
  • Heart failure Worth acting on
  • An irregular heartbeat Worth acting on
  • Confusion Worth acting on
  • Low mood Worth acting on
  • A low platelet count Worth acting on
  • Breast tenderness
  • Blurred vision
  • A fast or pounding heartbeat

From the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of the FDA label for Digoxin. Read the label on DailyMed › Clivers’s licensed record lists no adverse effects our clinical vocabulary could match, so there is no Clivers side to compare — that is a limit of the record, not a statement that Clivers has no side effects.

See Every Supplement That Interacts With Digoxin

This page covers Clivers only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Digoxin page lists 113 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.

The most serious there right now: Activated Charcoal (major), Aloe (major), Blue Flag (major), Danshen (major) and European Buckthorn (major).

By severity: 18 major · 79 moderate · 16 minor.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Digoxin page

“Digoxin is a heart medicine with a narrow therapeutic index, meaning the gap between a helpful blood level and a harmful one is small, and few drugs give me more pause when supplements enter the picture. The most serious entries here are herbs that themselves contain digoxin-like cardiac glycosides, foxglove and lily-of-the-valley amon…”

About Clivers

What is Clivers?

  • Supporting urinary tract and 'cleansing'
  • Mild swelling or fluid retention (diuretic use)
  • Skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis
  • Swollen lymph glands
  • Minor wounds and skin irritation (topical)

Clivers (Galium aparine) is a common wild plant used in traditional herbal medicine mainly as a 'cleansing' herb, mild diuretic, and skin remedy. Strong human evidence for these uses is lacking, so its benefits remain unproven. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, and avoid it during pregnancy and breastfeeding because safety is not established.

Galium aparine · Rubiaceae · Aerial parts (the leaves, stems, and flowering tops gathered above ground) · Tea (infusion), tincture, fresh juice, capsules, and topical preparations

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Clivers is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Clivers record says about it on its own.

Clivers: dosing

There is no official, well-studied standardized dose for clivers. Traditional use varies widely depending on whether it is taken as a tea, tincture, or fresh juice, and product strengths differ from brand to brand. The safest approach is to follow the directions on the product label and not exceed the suggested amount.

About Digoxin

What Is Digoxin Used For?

Brand names: Lanoxicaps, Lanoxin, Digitek

Digoxin treats mild to moderate heart failure in adults. It improves heart failure symptoms and exercise capacity, and it reduces heart failure-related hospitalizations and emergency care. It does not change survival.

It also helps control the resting heart rate in adults with chronic atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat). In children with heart failure, the tablet, oral solution and most injection products are used to increase the heart’s pumping strength (myocardial contractility). Some older injection labels list only the adult uses. Digoxin Oral Solution should not be used for multifocal atrial tachycardia.
