Acetaminophen, Chlorpheniramine, Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Clove interacts with.
In vitro research shows that eugenol, the principal constituent of clove, can inhibit CYP2D6 in a dose-dependent manner. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist of it: this combo cold product contains dextromethorphan, the cough suppressant, which your body clears using an enzyme called CYP2D6. In lab dishes, eugenol (the main oil in clove) can slow that same enzyme down. If that happened in people, dextromethorphan could build up a bit and lead to more drowsiness, dizziness, or feeling foggy. The acetaminophen and chlorpheniramine pieces aren't really driven by this pathway.
The important part: this is only test-tube data and has never been shown to cause problems in real people. Normal cooking amounts of clove are no concern at all. Concentrated clove oil or supplements are where I'd be a little more careful, so check with your pharmacist if you're using those regularly.

Here's the short version on this combination cold and flu product (the one with acetaminophen, the antihistamine chlorpheniramine, and the cough suppressant dextromethorphan). Lab studies suggest eugenol, the main compound in clove, can slow down a liver enzyme called CYP1A2. In theory, if that enzyme runs slower, certain medicines it handles could build up a bit and hit you harder.
What I want you to know is that this is theoretical, seen only in test tube research, not in real people. If anything did shift, you might notice more drowsiness, dizziness, or dry mouth. The clove in your cooking is no concern at all. Concentrated clove oil or supplements are where I'd pause and check with your pharmacist first.

In vitro research shows that eugenol, the principal constituent of clove, can inhibit CYP3A4 in a dose-dependent manner. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
This Coricidin product combines three medicines, and one of them, the cough suppressant dextromethorphan, is partly broken down by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In lab dishes, eugenol (the main compound in clove) can slow that enzyme down. If that happened in people, dextromethorphan could build up a bit, which might mean more drowsiness, dizziness, or that floaty, foggy feeling. The chlorpheniramine (an antihistamine) can already add to sleepiness too.
Here's the reassuring part: this is only seen in test-tube studies, not in real people, so the evidence is weak. Sprinkling clove in cooking is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated clove oil or supplements are the bigger question. If you use those regularly, just check with your pharmacist first.
