Amphetamine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Clove interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use of clove may increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
In vitro research shows that eugenol, the principal constituent of clove, can inhibit CYP2D6 in a dose-dependent manner. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for amphetamine. Your body uses an enzyme called CYP2D6 to help clear amphetamine out of your system. The eugenol in clove may slow that enzyme down, at least in lab studies. If it does the same thing in people, amphetamine could hang around a bit longer and feel stronger.

In real life that might mean more of the usual amphetamine side effects, like a racing heart, jitteriness, trouble sleeping, less appetite, or feeling on edge. Keep in mind this is theoretical, based only on test-tube work, not on actual patients. The clove in your cooking is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated clove oil or supplements are the bigger question. If you use those regularly, just check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Amphetamine Used For?

Brand names: Dyanavel XR, Adensys XR-ODT, Mydayis, Adzenys ER

Amphetamine treats Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in patients 6 years and older. Adzenys XR-ODT, Dyanavel XR, and the amphetamine extended-release orally disintegrating tablet formulations are specifically approved for ADHD in this age group.

Amphetamine Sulfate tablets and Evekeo (amphetamine sulfate tablets) are also approved for narcolepsy (a sleep disorder causing uncontrollable daytime sleepiness) and as a short-term aid in a calorie-restricted weight-loss program for exogenous obesity (weight gain from external factors like overeating) in patients who have not responded to other approaches.
