Both ingredients in this cough and cold combo lean on a liver enzyme called CYP2D6 to get cleared from your body. In test-tube studies, eugenol (the main compound in clove) slowed that enzyme down. If that happened in people, the dextromethorphan and chlorpheniramine could hang around a bit longer than usual, which might mean more drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, or that foggy, sedated feeling. Neither one is a prodrug here, so blocking the enzyme would make their effects stronger, not weaker.

Here's the reassuring part: this is only seen in lab dishes, never confirmed in humans, and a sprinkle of clove in your cooking is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated clove oil or supplements are the bigger question. If you use those regularly, run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

This cough and cold combo contains dextromethorphan (a cough suppressant) and chlorpheniramine (a sedating antihistamine). Dextromethorphan is partly handled by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In lab dishes, the eugenol in clove can slow that enzyme down. If that happened in your body, dextromethorphan could build up a bit, which might mean more drowsiness, dizziness, or that loopy, foggy feeling.

Here's the honest part: this is only seen in test-tube studies, not in real people, so the actual risk is likely small. The clove in your cooking is no concern at all. Concentrated clove oil or supplements are where I'd pause. If you use those regularly, just check with your pharmacist or doctor first.
