Theoretically, cocoa might reduce the effects of phenobarbital and increase the risk for convulsions.
Cocoa contains caffeine. Animal research suggests that caffeine can decrease the anticonvulsant activity of phenobarbital. The exact mechanism of this interaction is unclear.

Here's the simple version. This combination product contains phenobarbital, which is a sedative and anti-seizure medicine. Cocoa naturally contains caffeine, and the concern is that caffeine might work against phenobarbital's calming, seizure-protecting effect. In theory, that could mean a bit less protection against convulsions in someone who relies on this drug for that purpose.

I want to be honest about the strength of this: it comes from lab and animal research only, and the exact way it works isn't well understood. A normal cup of hot chocolate or a piece of dark chocolate is very unlikely to cause a problem. Concentrated cocoa supplements are a different story. If you take this medicine, check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding any high-dose cocoa product.
