Here's the thing to keep in mind with this pairing. Ketoprofen is an NSAID, and on its own it can already nudge up your bleeding risk by making platelets a little less sticky and by irritating the stomach lining. Cod liver oil, thanks to its EPA and DHA omega-3s, can also gently thin the blood, especially at high concentrated doses (the studies that showed prolonged bleeding time used around 20 to 40 mL a day).

So stacking the two could add up to more bruising, nosebleeds, or stomach bleeding than either alone. This is more theoretical than proven, and small food or everyday supplement amounts are unlikely to cause trouble. Still, if you're on regular ketoprofen, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding cod liver oil.

What Is Ketoprofen Used For?

Brand names: Orudis, Oruvail Gel, Powergel, Oruvail Injection

Ketoprofen capsules (including the brand Orudis) are used to manage the signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, to treat pain, and to treat primary dysmenorrhea (painful menstrual periods).

Ketoprofen extended-release capsules are approved for rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis only. Because of the way they slowly release the drug, ketoprofen extended-release capsules are not recommended for treating acute (sudden) pain.
