Here's the simple version: cod liver oil, thanks to its omega-3 fats, can nudge your blood pressure down a little on its own. When you pair it with spironolactone, which is already working to lower blood pressure and pull off extra fluid, the two can add up. The concern is that your pressure could dip a bit more than expected, leaving you feeling dizzy, lightheaded, or wobbly when you stand up too fast.

This is mostly a theoretical, additive effect, and the evidence behind it is modest, so most people do fine. Still, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor, especially if you're already prone to low readings. And keep in mind cod liver oil also carries vitamin A, so don't overdo the dose.

About Spironolactone

What Is Spironolactone Used For?

Brand names: Aldactone, Spiroton, Carospir

Spironolactone tablets (including Aldactone) are used to treat moderate-to-severe heart failure, high blood pressure, and fluid retention (edema) caused by liver cirrhosis or nephrotic syndrome. They are also used to diagnose and manage primary hyperaldosteronism — a condition where the adrenal glands produce too much of the hormone aldosterone.

Spironolactone oral suspension shares several of these uses — heart failure, high blood pressure, and edema from liver cirrhosis — but is not the same as Aldactone and is not therapeutically interchangeable with it. Your prescriber will choose the right form for your situation.
