Here's the simple version: chlorthalidone is a water pill that lowers your blood pressure by helping your body shed extra salt and fluid. The omega-3s in cod liver oil can also nudge blood pressure down a little on their own. Put the two together and those effects may stack, so your pressure could dip a bit lower than expected.

This isn't a dangerous chemical clash, and it's mostly theoretical, based on lower-quality studies. But if your numbers run low, you might notice dizziness, lightheadedness when you stand up, or feeling unusually tired. That matters more if you're older or already on several blood pressure meds. You don't need to stop either one. Just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor, and keep an eye on your readings.

What Is Chlorthalidone Used For?

Brand names: Hygroton, Thalitone

Chlorthalidone is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of serious cardiovascular events, especially strokes and heart attacks. It can be used alone or combined with other blood pressure medicines.

Chlorthalidone is also used as an add-on treatment for edema (fluid buildup) caused by heart failure, liver cirrhosis, and kidney conditions including nephrotic syndrome, acute glomerulonephritis, and chronic renal failure. Thalitone is additionally indicated for edema associated with heart failure, liver cirrhosis, and renal disease including nephrotic syndrome.
