Here's the concern with pairing comfrey and diclofenac. Comfrey contains pyrrolizidine alkaloids, natural compounds that can be hard on the liver, especially when you swallow it rather than rub it on your skin. Diclofenac, like other NSAIDs, can occasionally stress the liver too. Put the two together and the worry is an additive burden, meaning more potential strain than either alone.

To be fair, this is a theoretical concern based on how these substances behave, not proven cases of the combination. Still, watch for signs like yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, belly pain, or unusual tiredness. Honestly, comfrey is best kept off your supplement list entirely. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Diclofenac sodium topical gel is used to treat actinic keratoses (AK) — rough, scaly skin patches that form after years of sun exposure. These patches are considered precancerous, meaning they can develop into skin cancer if left untreated.
