In vitro research suggests that eleuthero can inhibit the multi-drug transporter protein, P-glycoprotein. However, it is too soon to tell if this is clinically important. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the situation with eleuthero and your avatrombopag (Doptelet). Avatrombopag relies partly on a cellular pump called P-glycoprotein to move it around and out of the body. In lab-dish studies, eleuthero appeared to slow that pump down. If that held true in people, a bit more avatrombopag could linger in your system, which in theory might push your platelet count higher than intended.

The key word is theory. This comes only from test-tube research, not from real patients, so we honestly don't know if it matters in everyday life. Still, since avatrombopag is dosed carefully to raise platelets safely, I'd mention any eleuthero supplement to your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, just so they can keep an eye on things.

In vitro and animal research suggest that standardized extracts of eleuthero might inhibit CYP3A4. However, research in healthy human volunteers has found that taking eleuthero 485 mg twice daily for 14 days does not inhibit CYP3A4 drug metabolism.

What Is Avatrombopag Used For?

Brand name: Doptelet

Avatrombopag treats thrombocytopenia, which means a low platelet count. Platelets are the blood cells that help your blood clot.

Doptelet tablets are used in adults with chronic liver disease who are scheduled for a procedure. They are also used in adults with chronic ITP who didn't respond well enough to a previous treatment, and in children 6 and older with persistent or chronic ITP. Doptelet Sprinkle is used in children 1 to under 6 years old with persistent or chronic ITP.
