Eleuthero + Famotidine, Ibuprofen
Famotidine, Ibuprofen brand name: Duexis.
Famotidine, Ibuprofen falls into 2 drug categories that Eleuthero can interact with; the most serious is rated moderate. Theoretically, eleuthero might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9.

These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Eleuthero interacts with whole categories of medication. Famotidine, Ibuprofen falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Eleuthero in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES
1 of 2Why this applies to Famotidine, Ibuprofen
Famotidine, Ibuprofen falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Eleuthero interacts with.
In vitro and animal research suggest that standardized extracts of eleuthero might inhibit CYP2C9. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Duexis combines two medicines: ibuprofen (a pain and inflammation reliever) and famotidine (an acid reducer added to protect the stomach). The ibuprofen part is the piece that matters here, since it is partly cleared by a liver enzyme called CYP2C9. In lab and animal studies, eleuthero appeared to slow that enzyme down. If that happened in people, ibuprofen could linger a bit longer and its effects might build up.
In real life, this is only a theoretical concern. It has not actually been shown in humans, so I would not lose sleep over it. Still, more ibuprofen exposure could mean more stomach upset, heartburn, or, rarely, kidney strain. If you take Duexis regularly and want to add eleuthero, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS
2 of 2Famotidine, Ibuprofen also falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS.
In vitro and animal research shows that a constituent of eleuthero, dihydroxybenzoic acid, appears to inhibit platelet aggregation. Concomitant use with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs might increase the risk of bleeding. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Duexis pairs ibuprofen (an anti-inflammatory pain reliever) with famotidine (an acid reducer that helps protect your stomach). The piece that matters here is the ibuprofen, because NSAIDs like it can already irritate the stomach lining and make it a little harder for your blood to clot.
Eleuthero might add to that bleeding tendency. Lab and animal studies suggest one of its compounds can slow platelets from sticking together. Stacked on top of ibuprofen, the theory is you could bruise more easily or be slower to stop bleeding. Honestly, this has never actually been seen in people, so the concern is mostly on paper. Still, watch for unusual bruising, nosebleeds, or dark stools, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

About Eleuthero
What is Eleuthero?
- Fatigue and low energy
- Physical and athletic performance
- Stress resistance (adaptogen)
- Immune support
- Mental focus and alertness
Eleuthero is an herb traditionally used as an 'adaptogen' to fight fatigue, boost energy, and help the body handle stress. The scientific evidence behind these uses is limited and mixed, so it should not replace proven treatments. It is generally well tolerated short-term, but pregnant and breastfeeding people and those with certain conditions should avoid it or check with a healthcare provider first.
